Cosmonauts conduct underwater training inside the Hydrolab at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Moscow Region.The pool contains full-scale mock-ups of space station modules (like the Russian Zvezda module seen here) and other hardware. Hydrolab allows Practicing procedures for fixing malfunctioning systems on the outside of the station.

Divers assist astronauts in simulating weightlessness by working on submerged mock-ups of space station modules. This Training is replicating extravehicular activities (EVA) required on Mir and later on the International Space Station. The Hydrolab tank, 23 meters long and 12 meters deep. It has been a cornerstone of Soviet and Russian cosmonaut training since the 1970s.
