Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about TVDATA footage licensing, pricing, clip length, delivery, and usage rights.
What is royalty-free stock footage?
Royalty-free stock footage means you pay once for the agreed footage licence. You do not pay repeated usage fees for the approved use. It does not mean copyright ownership is transferred. TVDATA grants a usage licence for the agreed project, media, territory, term, and format.
How long is each licensed video clip?
Each licensed video clip is usually supplied as one consecutive segment of up to 30 seconds from the selected footage.
For example, you can choose:
00:02:10 – 00:02:40
The licensed segment must run continuously from one part of the video. It cannot be made from several separate moments joined together.
If you need a longer consecutive archive segment, TVDATA can prepare a custom quote based on clip length, resolution, usage, media, territory, licence duration, and delivery format.
Where can I view TVDATA preview clips?
Most TVDATA preview clips are available on our YouTube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/@TVDATA/videos
These videos are previews only. They help clients browse available archive footage, historical clips, newsreels, documentary footage, and editorial stock video before requesting a licence.

What type of footage can I license from TVDATA?
TVDATA licenses selected HD and 4K stock footage, archive footage, historical newsreels, documentary footage, editorial video, remastered stock footage, and rare archival footage.
Our clips are suitable for producers, editors, YouTube documentary channels, education projects, museums, researchers, factual media teams, and online publishers.
What is the difference between royalty-free and rights-managed footage?
Royalty-free footage means the client pays once for the agreed footage licence. It is usually suitable for selected stock footage, online editorial use, education, research edits, YouTube documentaries, and factual media projects.
Rights-managed footage is priced according to the exact use. This may include media type, territory, licence duration, exclusivity, placement, clip length, rarity, and clearance status.
Rare archival footage, political archive footage, Soviet and Cold War footage, war footage, public-figure footage, broadcast use, streaming use, or sensitive editorial material may require a rights-managed quote.
TVDATA does not sell copyright ownership. TVDATA grants a usage licence for the agreed project, media, territory, term, and format.
Can TVDATA offer exclusive licensing?
An exclusive licence means TVDATA agrees not to license the same footage to other clients within the agreed scope. This may include media type, territory, licence term, project category, or usage field.
Exclusive licensing is quoted individually. It does not normally transfer copyright ownership.
Does TVDATA sell copyright ownership?
TVDATA follows a professional archive-licensing model. We grant usage licences, not copyright ownership. Exclusive or semi-exclusive licensing may be available by custom agreement, but copyright remains with TVDATA or the relevant rights holder unless a separate written copyright assignment is agreed.
