This page shows what professional AI video upscaling does to a standard-definition archive clip. The same archive material twice. On the left is the raw original exactly as digitized from the PAL tape master, in standard definition, with nothing applied. On the right is a short excerpt after TVDATA’s full pass: AI upscaling to 3840 × 2160, color correction and mastering. Play both full-screen and compare edges, texture, grain and color.
Before: original PAL master
Source: standard-definition PAL, straight from the tape transfer. No upscaling, no color correction, no sharpening or noise reduction.
After: 4K upscale, color-corrected and mastered
Output: 4K UHD (3840 × 2160), color-corrected and mastered. Open it on YouTube and switch quality to 2160p; YouTube’s compression still softens it compared with the master file we deliver.
Look closer: professional AI video upscaling, frame by frame
Video players soften everything, and YouTube compresses both clips. These two stills show the difference at its plainest. In each picture the left half is a frame from the PAL tape and the right half is a frame from the 4K master. The two frames are different moments of the same shot, taken from the YouTube previews above, so compare the quality of the picture rather than the position of the people. The master file we deliver is sharper than anything YouTube can show.

The tape is 4:3 and the 4K master is 16:9, so the two frames cannot match edge for edge. Sometimes the picture has to be reframed by hand, shot by shot, so that the people and the action stay in the frame.

The numbers behind the picture
20×
more pixels in every frame. A PAL frame has 414,720 of them. A 4K UHD frame has 8,294,400.
3840 × 2160
the frame size of the master we deliver, up from 720 × 576 on the tape.
Progressive
Tape plays back as interlaced fields. The master is whole frames, with no comb lines on movement.
What to look for after professional AI video upscaling
Edges
Follow the outline of the glass lamp and the carved gilt of the chair. On the tape they blur into the background. On the master every curve is a clean line.
Grain and noise
The dark corners of the tape swim with video noise. The master is quiet, and the damask pattern on the chair back, lost on the tape, is plainly there.
Colour
The tape pushes everything towards brown and purple. After colour correction her skin, the pale silk of the chair and the gold of the frame each read as their own colour.
What professional AI video upscaling did to this clip
Source capture: we start from the best available master. For tape, that means a fresh full-quality digitization before any processing.
AI upscaling: we reconstruct the standard-definition frame to 3840 × 2160 and recover edge detail and texture from what the source recorded. We invent nothing that the tape did not contain.
Color correction: we bring levels, white balance and saturation back to a neutral grade, so the archive cuts cleanly next to modern 4K material.
Mastering: we output the finished clip in the codec and frame size you specify, with a written note that it is AI-upscaled rather than native 4K.
