For immersion, the submarine takes ballast – water – into tanks. For ascent, the ballast is blown: water is forced out of the tanks by compressed air. When the boat is fully submerged, it changes depth with the help of the rudders. Reception or pumping out of ballast after that is carried out only for balance.
