Roman Abramovich – From Sibneft to Chelsea FC
Roman Abramovich purchased Chelsea Football Club in 2003 for about £140 million and went on to invest hundreds of millions more into players and infrastructure. By 2000 he was already a billionaire, having built his fortune in the 1990s during Russia’s privatization process. He gained control of the oil company Sibneft and later sold it to Gazprom for around $13 billion.
