The main river associated with Chernobyl, flowing right by the power plant and the abandoned city, is the Pripyat River, which eventually drains into the Dnieper River. The city of Pripyat itself was named after this river, and both became heavily contaminated after the 1986 disaster, with the river carrying radionuclides downstream.
